* Cow Camp – Learn how to cowboy
We have had participation in our cattle round-ups for many years now, but this program is different. Here you will learn how a cow thinks, how she can be persuaded to see it your way – how to pen cattle, how to run them through the cattle chute, and how to herd them across country. The first day or so is spent in learning “cow talk” – where do you stand, what do you do, how do you get her to see it your way. Then there is the actual “cattle work” – learning how to influence a cow’s thinking, how to get her to move here and there. When all that is under your belt, it’s time to put all this in practice, by trailing the cattle across the ranch to a neighboring set of corrals. There you will find out just how much of an art roping a cow can be. After feeding all the livestock, you spend the evening around a campfire, eating steak and beans, then bedding down in a tent. Next morning, feed the livestock, enjoy a camp breakfast, and then hit the trail for the return journey. The aim of this whole exercise is not so much to get the cattle from point A to point B, but rather to learn how to do it – to learn how to outwit a cow, who, owning (we believe), a lesser brain, and without benefit of having been to college, can yet outwit lots of cowboys and make fools of the best of us!

STEP INTO HISTORY WEEK
Have you ever wondered what it must have been like to live here in the 1800’s, with the Apaches, the bandits, the rustlers and the cowboys?
Find out! We are having our first ever “Step Into History Week” – a re-enactment of what life was like in those days for the tough living, hard riding, gun toting, brave people who settled the West.
Come and join us for a week of nostalgia. and be transported back to the mid/late 1800’s. For five days dress, eat, speak and BE the spirit of the Old West. Explore the era of Cochise, Geronimo, Doc Holiday, Bat Masterson, the Earps and the Clancys - from sunrise to dinner you will live in the past. Ranch functions, daily routines and trail rides will be mirror images of the events of the times. You can provide your own period costume, or purchase or rent one from a local Tombstone merchant. Characters needed are Mangas Coloradas, Cochise, Geronimo, Lt.Bascom, Mike Noonan, General Crook, Tom Jeffords, General Miles, many ladies of the night known as “soiled doves” - and any others you can dig up from your history books!
Some of the riding will be to Middlemarch, The Stronghold, the Noonan Canyon, and some of the evening activities will include: Cowboy poetry, Tall Tales by Gene, Campfire Night, and Casino/Saloon night with Doc and Wyatt.
To ensure that you'll be comfortable in your environment, a riding evaluation and familiarization session will be held before your trip begins to the 'days of yesteryear'.
Dates To Be Announced
Cost: $450 per person – must be paid when booking the reservation
Minimum number of guests is 15.
If we do not meet the minimum number required, we will put the refund of the $450 for this activity towards your account, and we will proceed with a regular week here at the ranch. Interest in “Step into History Week” has been high, so we don’t expect there to be a problem meeting the minimum number of people.
So call up now for more information and prepare to Step Into History!
Please call us at 800.245.9202 for more details.
* PLEASE NOTE: For travel agents and tour operators this is a non-commissionable activity.
